Mistress, you may wish to come down to your parlor.

Her steward's voice in her head made Liliana whine, curling up tighter under the blankets and dragging a pillow over her head. "Nooooo, I don't wish to."

Respectfully, Mistress, I believe this...issue...would be better dealt with sooner rather than later.

"You do it then." Yes Liliana knew that she sounded petulant and childish (was being petulant and childish), but she was exhausted from yesterday and she really deserved to stay in bed and then proceed immediately to her bath, possibly with food delivered to either location. What she did not want to do was 1) get up, and 2) deal with any 'issues.'

I believe this is something you would rather handle yourself. Clothed.

Well, that made her sit straight up in bed. "Are the children back?!" That was what it had been the last time he'd requested her presence somewhere and specified she should be dressed for it. If it ended up being more children, she was just going to Planeswalk to Innistrad. Ravnica. Her tower on Lorwyn if she had to. Just not here.

No, Mistress, no children. She got a distinct impression that he was sighing, which was CLEARLY IMPOSSIBLE because he didn't have to breathe. Which meant he was only doing it as an affectation. She didn't know where that predilection could have come from. Probably Ignis. There is...a dog.

A dog. There was a dog and somehow she was required to deal with it and it had been five minutes and she was already going to fire today. "Fine," she muttered, kicking the covers off and climbing out of bed. "I'll be down shortly."

What next?

[For the dog causing all this trouble and the gentleman living with her, should he wish!]

Once again, the gate that blocked off the bottom end of Phoenix Way was opened, inviting everyone to the creepy (though much less abandoned) mansion. This time, however, instead of being guided around to the gardens, the lit path led them to the front door, where the a tall figure in a tattered robe and deep cowl gestured for them to step inside the door and get onto a...boat? Once people had climbed in settled themselves, the ferryman began to guide the ship down the River Styx. Or, okay, their long entrance hallway, with blue lights to either side of their boat to mimic water and bathing everyone in an eerie blue glow. (Yes, okay, the boat perhaps wheeled down the hallway rather than floated, but they had not refinished this house just to flood the hallway for verisimilitude. Even if Liliana had considered it for a few minutes.)

The double doors leading to the ballroom were opened, with thick fog rolling out of the doorway. And through that doorway, people could descend the stairs into the Underworld proper. Black and gold were the prevailing color, with deep red nods to a pomegranate motif. Gold coins and loose gemstones added to the decor, a nod to Hades' wealth - but even amidst all the dark opulence, touches of other colors could be seen: tucked away in various corners and small niches were flowering plants, a surprise kiss of springtime to be found in the least likely places. Rather than one large chandelier, they had several, creating areas of both light and shadow around the ballroom.

Welcome to the Underworld, dear friends.

With apologies to Lydia, but it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a luxury suite in possession of a good dining room, must be in want of a dinner party. And who were Liliana and Ignis to deny such an obvious and powerful truth? And so, determined to make use of the dining room for its intended purpose at least once this trip, Ignis set to work forcing the kitchenette to somehow be up to the task of preparing a several course meal (with much appreciation for the butler bringing in random appliances from for him to use), while Liliana handled sending out the handwavy invitations and then...well, lounging mostly.

An acceptable division of labor.

That evening, the assembled guests were invited in to enjoy a kind of 'inside out' dinner with nods to the Quebecois cuisine. For appetizers, they had maple-bacon carrots and garlic parmesan duchess potatoes, with a main of French onion soup, and lamb and goat cheese sliders for dipping. That's right, the sides were apps and the apps were mains and up was down and dessert was a berry creme brulee! Several bottles of Côtes du Rhône and a nice brandy were included for pairings, as well as a few bottles Bière de Garde and some nicely mulled cider for any guests who preferred those to wine.

(Okay, so in addition to the invitations, Liliana had also been in charge of picking out the wine and other beverage accompaniments. She'd clearly helped, you're all welcome, no need to applaud but you could if you wanted to.)

A true pity that for yet another day they'd been too busy to try to find new glasses for Ignis, but such was life! Surely their guests would appreciate his sacrifice.

[For thems what got the invitation, pls, and likely to be quite slow]

Liliana absolutely did not care about what was happening outside. Texas? Whatever. Dust? Who cared? Ghost town? Well...actually, that had been interesting until Liliana had verified that there were, in fact, no ghosts in the town. But after that, she gave no further thought to what was happening out of doors.

Because within them was their party.

The ballroom doors opened into a space that had been transformed for the evening into an elegant private casino. While there were no slot machines, various tables lined the room: blackjack, poker, roulette, craps, even the odd pool table - and, of course, a table dedicated to Pazaak (with an admittedly anemic deck; Liliana hadn't gotten out to Nar Shadaa yet). Above the room, a chandelier lit the room, magnified by the sconces along the walls. One entire wall was taken up by a large display labeled Exchange, where multiple prizes were on display. The price tags on everything were not in dollars but a weird currency called 'zibs' and 'zinos'. Apparently, no American cash would be accepted or exchanged tonight.

Following the carpet down the entry stairs and into the ballroom proper, each person who entered was greeted by a uniformed croupier and given five gold coins with "1 zino" embossed on one side and a weird triangle design on the other. "You will be able to break these down further at the tables," she murmured as she gestured them further inside where Ignis and Liliana, (for once not in purple but red) waited to greet them properly.

There was alcohol, there was food, there was appropriate background music, as well as plenty of room to dance.

Most importantly, however, the gaming tables were open!

Obviously, the best way to spend the morning after a party was blissfully asleep until sometime in the early afternoon. But, if for one reason or another, sleep was not possible, luxuriating in bed anyway, with a cup of coffee prepared just the way you liked it and a bowl of tart berries and sweet cream was a decent third. (Second was a long, thorough wake up in the fashion she'd discussed with Steve last night.) And you know what didn't make the list at all?

Someone pounding on the front door. The kind of insistent banging that suggested they were fine keeping this up all day.

*If that is Dean again, you have my permission to eat him,* Liliana thought furiously. *In fact, I may just help.*

*I don't believe any forays into cannibalism are required, Mistress,* her steward replied. *But I do believe that you may wish to come down. Clothed.

Liliana might owe the Jedi on the island royalties, because she suddenly had a bad feeling about this...

At 3:20, Liliana flung open the highest window of the house, looking around for squirrels, spotting several. At 3:21, as the eclipse darkened the world around them, she flung up her hands, ropes of purplish-black power shooting up into the sky like tethers. And laughed - not a loud cackle as one might assume, but more of a cold, calculating chuckle.

She stood like that for ten seconds, twenty, thirty...once a full minute had passed, she let the magic dissipate, dropped her arms, and, shaking the soreness out, closed the window and headed back downstairs, humming to herself.

An excellent afternoon's work.
