deathsmajesty: Katie McGrath as Lana Luthor (Smile - Professional)
The Elder Mr. Havisham no longer held regular appointments. He left that kind of thing to his various descendants, all of whom he looped under the heading of grandchildren, simply because it was easier than trying to remember how many generations separated him from this one, or whether that one was of his direct lineage or a grandniece or nephew. Like regular appointments, Kristoff Haversham simply had more important things to do than to keep track of which various branch one of his employed kin came from on their family tree.

While the younger generations (many of them grayer and more stooped than he, mind) were content to balance books and make investments on behalf of the lay population, Kristoff had very strict guidelines about who he was willing to personally have sit-down client meetings with. And that was because his chosen clientele weren't the kind to make appointments, simply to sweep in and demand to be seen right that minute. Nor did they keep themselves to strict business hours; he was as likely to have a client appear in the dead of night as he was in the light of day. So, rather than try to keep to regular hours and appointments, he simply saw his clients or their proxies whenever they appeared in his office, without having to worry about angering someone else whose appointment had just been unceremoniously cancelled.

That did mean that he could spend whole weeks without speaking to a client directly, but nobody resented him for that. He dealt with the most powerful and deadly beings who walked this plane. If he got to enjoy an uninterrupted week after dealing with a second-generation Falkenrath or an undying lich that was more gaunt skeleton than magus, well, that only seemed fair.

Today's unanticipated visitor was neither vampire nor even undead, but instead a powerful necromancer named Liliana Vess, and she had brought with her a guest - a living guest, which was the real surprise, considering the lady's penchant for ghouls. One of his grandchildren escorted the two into a well-appointed sitting room while Kristoff had Lady Vess' records pulled and any other work he'd had tucked away. Once that was finished, the lady and her gentleman companion were escorted into his office, where he was already standing to greet them. "My dear Lady Vess," he said, with an affable smile. "We are honored to have you in our office today."
